Day 1. Identifying Your Oikos
Devotional: In Romans 12, we are introduced to the concept of 'oikos,' which refers to our extended family or close-knit community. This idea challenges us to influence the 8-15 people God has strategically placed in our lives. These are the people you interact with regularly, whether they are family members, friends, coworkers, or neighbors. Identifying your oikos is the first step in becoming a world changer. Take a moment to think about who these people are in your life. Write their names down and commit to praying for them daily. By doing this, you are laying the foundation for meaningful relationships that can lead others to Christ.
Verse: Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. - Romans 12:9
Question: Who are the 8-15 people in your life that God has strategically placed there, and how can you start praying for them today?
Quote: Everybody has about eight to 15 people in your life that God has strategically placed there who may or may not know Jesus.
Prayer: Lord, help me to identify the people in my oikos. Give me the wisdom and courage to pray for them daily and to show them Your love. Amen.
Day 2. Genuine Love
Devotional: Jesus wants our love to be generous and genuine. It's easy to say we love others, but do our actions reflect that love? Genuine love means going beyond words and showing kindness, patience, and understanding, even to those who may be difficult to love. Reflect on how you can demonstrate genuine love to your oikos. This could be through acts of service, listening to their concerns, or simply spending quality time with them. Remember, Jesus hated disingenuity, so let your love be real and impactful.
Verse: Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. - Romans 12:10
Question: Do you genuinely love the people in your oikos, and how can you show that love in a tangible way this week?
Quote: Jesus wants our love to be generous and genuine.
Prayer: Lord, teach me to love genuinely. Help me to show kindness and patience to those in my oikos, reflecting Your love in all I do. Amen.
Day 3. Optimism in God's Mission
Devotional: A world changer is optimistic about God's mission. Despite the challenges and tribulations we may face, we are called to rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, and be constant in prayer. This optimism is not based on our circumstances but on our faith in God's promises. When we remain hopeful and patient, we can inspire those in our oikos to trust in God's plan. Let your optimism be a beacon of light to those around you, showing them that with God, all things are possible.
Verse: Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. - Romans 12:12
Question: How can you maintain optimism in God's mission, even during challenging times, and inspire your oikos to do the same?
Quote: A world changer is optimistic about God's mission.
Prayer: Lord, fill me with hope and patience. Help me to remain constant in prayer and to inspire those in my oikos with my optimism in Your mission. Amen.
Day 4. Generosity of Time and Resources
Devotional: A world changer is giving of their time and resources. Hospitality is more than just opening your home; it's about opening your heart and life to others. Consider how you can be more generous with your time and resources to those in your oikos. This could mean inviting someone over for a meal, helping a friend in need, or simply being available to listen. Your generosity can make a significant impact and show others the love of Christ in a tangible way.
Verse: Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality. - Romans 12:13
Question: In what ways can you be more generous with your time and resources to those in your oikos this week?
Quote: A world changer is giving of their time and resources.
Prayer: Lord, help me to be generous with my time and resources. Show me how I can practice hospitality and make a difference in the lives of those in my oikos. Amen.
Day 5. Understanding and Showing Grace
Devotional: A world changer understands grace and shows grace. We are called to bless those who persecute us and to repay no evil for evil. This can be challenging, especially when dealing with difficult people. However, showing grace means extending kindness and forgiveness, even when it's undeserved. Reflect on how you can show grace to those in your oikos, especially those who may have wronged you. By doing so, you are reflecting the grace that God has shown you and leading others to experience His love.
Verse: Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. - Romans 12:14
Question: How can you show grace to those in your oikos, especially to those who may have wronged you?
Quote: A world changer understands grace and shows grace.
Prayer: Lord, help me to understand and show grace. Give me the strength to bless those who persecute me and to reflect Your love in all my interactions. Amen.
