Day 1: Do You Want to Be Healed?
Devotional
In John 5:1-18, Jesus approaches a man who had been an invalid for 38 years and asks him, 'Do you want to be healed?' This question may seem obvious, but it invites us to reflect on our own lives. Are there areas where we need healing but have become complacent or resigned to our circumstances? Jesus offers us healing, but we must first acknowledge our need and desire for it. Just as the man at the Pool of Bethesda had to respond to Jesus' question, we too must be willing to say, 'Yes, Lord, I want to be healed.'
Bible Verse
"Jesus asked him, 'Do you want to be healed?' '' - John 5:6
Reflection Question
What areas of your life do you need to bring before Jesus for healing?
Quote
'Jesus asked him, 'Do you want to be healed?' ''
Prayer
Lord, help me to recognize the areas in my life where I need Your healing touch. Give me the courage to bring these needs before You and to trust in Your power to heal and restore. Amen.
Day 2: Take Up Your Mat and Walk
Devotional
After asking the man if he wants to be healed, Jesus commands him to 'Get up, take your bed, and walk.' This command requires action and faith. The man had to trust Jesus' words and act on them, even though he had been unable to walk for 38 years. In our own lives, Jesus calls us to take steps of faith, trusting in His power to transform our circumstances. We may not see immediate results, but our obedience and faith in Jesus' words can lead to miraculous changes.
Bible Verse
'Jesus said to him, 'Get up, take your bed and walk.'' - John 5:8
Reflection Question
What steps of faith is Jesus calling you to take today?
Quote
'Jesus said to him, 'Get up, take your bed and walk.''
Prayer
Lord, give me the faith to act on Your commands, even when it seems impossible. Help me to trust in Your power to bring about change in my life. Amen.
Day 3: Recognizing Jesus' Authority
Devotional
When the Pharisees confront Jesus about healing on the Sabbath, He responds by saying, 'My Father is working until now, and I am working.' This statement reveals Jesus' divine authority and His unity with God. It challenges us to recognize Jesus' authority in every aspect of our lives. Are we willing to submit to His authority and trust in His guidance, even when it goes against our own understanding or societal norms?
Bible Verse
'Jesus says, 'My Father is working until now, and I am working.'' - John 5:17
Reflection Question
How can you better recognize and submit to Jesus' authority in your daily life?
Quote
'Jesus says, 'My Father is working until now, and I am working.''
Prayer
Lord, help me to recognize Your authority in every area of my life. Teach me to submit to Your will and to trust in Your guidance, even when it challenges my own understanding. Amen.
Day 4: The Transformative Power of Jesus
Devotional
The healing at the Pool of Bethesda not only transformed the man's physical condition but also challenged the religious leaders' understanding of the Sabbath. Jesus' actions demonstrate that He prioritizes compassion and transformation over rigid adherence to religious rituals. This passage invites us to reflect on whether we are more concerned with religious practices or with experiencing and sharing the transformative power of Jesus. Are we open to the ways Jesus wants to work in and through us, even if it disrupts our routines?
Bible Verse
'Jesus' death defeats death for us.' - Romans 8:28
Reflection Question
Are you more focused on religious rituals or on experiencing and sharing the transformative power of Jesus?
Quote
'Jesus' death defeats death for us.'
Prayer
Lord, help me to prioritize Your transformative power over religious rituals. Open my heart to the ways You want to work in and through me, and give me the courage to share Your love with others. Amen.
Day 5: Jesus, the Lord of All Creation
Devotional
Jesus' declaration of divine authority in John 5:1-18 reminds us that He is the Lord of all creation. He holds the universe in place and sustains all things. This truth should fill us with awe and reverence, but also with comfort and assurance. Jesus, who has the power to heal and transform, is also the one who created and sustains us. We can trust Him with every aspect of our lives, knowing that He is in control and that His love for us is boundless.
Bible Verse
'He is the radiance of the glory of God, the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power.' - Hebrews 1:3
Reflection Question
How does recognizing Jesus as the Lord of all creation impact your trust in Him?
Quote
'Jesus holds the universe in place, right? Like the atoms and cells inside of our body.'
Prayer
Lord, thank You for being the Lord of all creation. Help me to trust in Your power and love, knowing that You hold all things together. Strengthen my faith and help me to live in awe and reverence of You. Amen.
